Shirley Temple: Smiles and Curls Collection

Off-Temple
In mid-2009, MILL CREEK's SHIRLEY TEMPLE: SMILES AND CURLS COLLECTION was doubled in size and issued with the same artwork as SHIRLEY TEMPLE & FRIENDS. The "14 Features" claim on this product's cover is incorrect. The set consists of 3 features and 11 shorts. There's no literature included in the sturdy snapcase plastic box. Program contents are listed on its back cover.

Here, a potentially interesting collection is badly hampered by a great deal of flawed source material.

DISC ONE--
Audio on THE LITTLE PRINCESS is top shelf, but colors are washed out. A small border appears around the image, thus the entire picture is visible
LAW OF VENGEANCE starts at low volume, but that improves within a minute. Film stock used is quite degraded with many break splices. Evidence here of a dub from VHS
In RED-HAIRED ALIBI, Shirley is last-billed. Lots of film breaks here, but sound is...

Great gift idea
Got these as a gift for my mother-n-law after I heard her mention she loved this show as a kid. She was very surprised that I remembered and thankful I was able to find this show on dvd.

Love Shirley Temple
This is an extensive collection of shorts which include Shirley Temple at a VERY young age. Some are absolutely hysterical, some are so cute you just have to say "AW". All are enjoyable if you are truly a fan of this talented actress/woman.

Corneil & Bernie - The Complete Series

no age required
I first seen this cartoon a few months ago on cable television.I would watch every day, early in the morning. It is a very cute and charming cartoon for any age to enjoy. The dog is the brains of the two and has to continuously save his dog-sitter from the trouble he puts himself into.Oh,and of course the dog talks but,it is their little secret. The color detail in this cartoon are unlike any other I have ever seen, and the stories are good in keeping your interest.I strongly recomend this cartoon for any age to enjoy.I guarantee you will watch it over and over again.

An excellent cartoon...for all ages!
Over here in England Corneil & Bernie was called Watch my chops. Why the name was changed i dont know but when 13 episodes were released back in 2003 (i think) i got it straight away!
Last year i was puzzled why no more episodes were released and it was only when i looked it up on wiki that i found out the programs title had been changed, then i found out that all 52 episodes had been released on 2 discs!!
Eeeek!!!
52 episodes? Great googally moogally!
This cartoon is without doubt one of the funniest ive ever seen. Its a simple premise-
Corneil is a talking and very intelligent dog & Bernie is his dogsitter & the only one who knows his secret!
As i said before, there are 52 episodes & they'll keep you busy for hours & the great thing about this cartoon? Its for adults aswell as kids!
So do yourself a favour and buy this, you wont regret it ;)

Excellent!
Always loved Watched My Chops, got me through a whole summer off uni!

If you haven't seen this amazing series just yet, make sure you pick this boxset up. Excellent value, great product.

The only down sides are picture quality, not the greatest but still very watchable and the fact that all the episodes are jumbled up and not in order.

This is a must buy and region free (possibly why the image quality isn't as good as an English dvd.)

Box Office Gold 50 Movie Pack

Hollywood Who's Who is here here
BOX OFFICE GOLD 50 Movie Pack offers over 80 hours worth of lesser known films featuring several dozen renowned actors-- some in starring roles, others in support and a few in early career bit parts. A good portion of this box set are now-forgotten TV films. Many titles are European-made but feature American or British stars.

Among the many curios here are:
Elizabeth Taylor and Andy Warhol in "The Driver's Seat."
Lee Marvin co-starring in a "kiddie" film ("The Missouri Traveler").
The cartoon voice of Fred Flintstone (Alan Reed) appears as a professor in "The Seniors." Includes a young Dennis Quaid.
Minta Durfee (Fatty Arbuckle's ex-wife and silent comedy co-star) has one last cameo in "The Steagle."
Several Nashville stars in support of Tom Selleck as "The Concrete Cowboy."
A very young Tommy Lee Jones in the Canadian-made "Emily's Horoscope."
Check below for who appears in "Mooch Goes to Hollywood." 'Nuff said!

Best video transfer of any Mill Creek set by far
I was a little hesitant to order this title because my experience with Mill Creek color transfers of movies from the 70's and 80's has been spotty. What a pleasant surprise. I quickly scanned the movies and I was on disk 8 before I found anything that wasn't good or great quality, and even so, the movies are still watchable. Don't know about the quality of the actual movies, but if you've been burned by bad transfers before, you won't be disappointed by this set. One more thing--unlike the other Mill Creek sets that have 12 double-sided dvds, this has 13 disks with the movies on 1 side.

Great value for the price -- List of movies
Usual standard movies; Good value as sets go though, as noted from thir previous sets the quality is some-what lacking. Some of the titles are on other sets. IMDB.com is a great source for reviews of the movies. No real review yet just a list of the titles included in the set from the "Mill Creek" website:

2. Against All Hope
3. Agency
4. Angels Hard as They Come
5. Arch of Triumph
6. C.C. and Company
7. Callie & Son

9. Catch Me a Spy

Essential TV Western 150 Episodes

A bonanza from western TV's golden age
ESSENTIAL TV WESTERNS is a most interesting mix of 150 episodes of mostly 1950s and '60s television. Among the 18 series represented are the expected programs, like BONANZA, ROY ROGERS or ANNIE OAKLEY. Of especial interest are the shows that came and went with little fanfare, such as 26 MEN, RANGO, OUTLAWS, COWBOY G-MEN and TATE. Some, like "Outlaws" featured many famous guest stars during their brief run. "Rango" was a comedy starring Tim Conway and Guy Marks (he sang the spoof song, "Loving You Has Made Me Bananas"). "Tate" is a Civil War vet who lost part of his left arm. When he can't find work, Tate becomes a gunslinger. "26 Men" is based on the actual files of the Arizona Rangers. "Cowboy G-Men" stars Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester in "The Addams Family") as a government agent.

The dozen DVDs in this collection are stored in gloss-coated heavy paper sleeves that are housed in a sturdy easy-access box. Transfer quality, although primarily dependent on source material, is...

Not much new here, but still plenty of bang for the buck
The Essential TV Westerns 150 Episode Pack may not have many surprises - most of these shows have been available for some time - but if you're just starting you're collection, you can't beat the price. The videos are mostly in good shape (the night scenes are pretty murky, but that's a minor caveat IMHO) and you get a nice mix of programs.

The Adventures of Jim Bowie (1956) - this show, starring Scott Forbes, ran two years and was set in 1830s New Orleans before the title character moved to San Antonio - and his date with destiny. As such, it's really more of a "southern" than a "western", but the unusual setting is what sets it apart from other contemporary offerings - that, and the protagonist's primary weapon, his nine-inch long Bowie knife. Episodes included in this set are: Gone to Texas, Jackson's Assassination, Jim Bowie Comes Home, Monsieur Francois, Osceola, Outlaw Kingdom and The Select Females.

The Adventures of Kit Carson (1951) - In this early...

150 Western TV Episodes of Public Domain Goodness
Essential TV Westerns is a collection of 150 episodes from 18 different Western TV shows from the days when Hollywood knew how to make great Westerns on both the big and small screens. I paid $21.99 for my set and considering that you can pay $5 and higher for just 4 episodes of one of these shows, you cannot complain about the price. The reason why you can get so many episodes for such a low price is that all of these shows are in the public domain. The quality of the prints used in this collection vary, but overall you will get a fairly decent picture on your screen.

The really great thing about this collection is that it is not limited to the usual suspects, that is shows such as Annie Oakley, Bonanza, Jim Bowie, Judge Roy Bean and Stories of the Century that are quite easy to find and obtain. The collection also includes such shows as Cowboy G-Men, The Gabby Hayes Show, Pistols & Petticoats, Rango and Tate that are fairly hard to find on DVD.
